Hello Readers!

It is now June, when our imagination goes wild and we start to lose focus on our school work and just...want...to...write! I have been doing a little writing myself. 
As you know from the first post, I am writing a book on World War Two. I would like to give you a little preview of it. Sure, it is so far from being done but I just want to invoke your interest. 

Here it goes:

He grabs my throat and pushes me hard against the alley wall. I choke and gasp for air while black seeps into my vision. 
"You will die for your impurities and your unrighteousness," he says. "The Jews will know how strong we are when they find you dead in the streets. The Nazis will be victorious."
...
He tightens his grip once more when my vision goes black. I can still hear his heavy breathing, feel his fingers around my neck. And then, he releases me and I fall, but never touch the ground. I gulp in deep breaths of air and slowly, my eyesight clears. The man is lying on the ground, unconscious. Henrik's eyes look down on me and I feel his hand stroke my hair. 

I hope I did not disappoint you, my readers. Please leave a comment below, I would love to hear your opinions on the book. I do not know if I will ever finish it entirely, or if you will ever see this book on the shelves in Barnes & Noble, but I still would love to hear your feedback.

So its the end of the month and spring is finally here! Time to start looking for books to read for the summer!

Here are a few recommendations for those World War Two historical fiction lovers!

Vienna Prelude

This is the first book of a wonderful nine book series called the Zion Covenant by Bodie and Brock Thoene. It explores the life of a Jewish family of musicians and their association with the underground resistance. This book takes place in 1936, the main character named Elisa Lindheim. She is a Jew whose has the appearance is of an Aryan descent. She is a violinist for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, but originally of German descent. Her father is arrested on their way to a safehouse in Austria, where she meets an American reporter named John Murphy. With Murphy's help, Elisa tries keep her biological family and orchestra family together as the Nazis approach Austria's border.

The Diary of a Young Girl

One of the most well known historical fiction books of the 20th century, Anne Frank's diary is an account of a teenage girl's life in the "Secret Annexe". After her older sister Margot was called to a work camp, the family goes into hiding in a space above her father's business. Anne names it the "Secret Annexe". She talks about her worsening relationship with her mother, sister, Dussell, and Mrs. Van Daan. She also explains the topic of boys and her growing relationship with Peter Van Daan. 

We Were Young and At War

This book is an account of many Jews, child soldiers, Hitler Youth and ordinary citizens; all in their teens. This book beautifully merges the accounts together by date, not by each individual account as most books do. Anne Frank's diary is a beautiful masterpiece, but it does not explain the tribulations of the Jews that did not go into hiding. These accounts are so intricate and personal that one will easily finish it in a week or less.

Code Name Verity and Rose Under Fire

This short series follows the stories of three different women who are intricately connected. In Code Name Verity, the book is told from the point of view of both Julie and Maddie. Both are flyers for the RAF in World War Two. Julie is captured by the Gestapo in France, while Maddie is hiding in a French resistance's barn, waiting to hear the fate of her dear friend. A book of strong friendship, you might be an emotional wreck by the end of the book. In Rose Under Fire, Rose is a new recruit for the RAF, and is of American descent. She works with Maddie from Code Name Verity to transport artillery to the troops in France. While flying over France, she is captured by the Germans and sent to the notorious women's concentration camp of Ravensbrück. She meets the Rabbits, a group of Polish women who the Nazis do sometimes fatal experiments on, a Russian Night Witch, and other amazing characters also detained in the camp. Sometimes horrific at parts, these two books will never fail to capture your interest and suspense over the two weeks that you take to read them.

There are many more appealing books that I have read, but these are the ones that have influenced my writing the most.

I have enjoyed reading and writing since a very young age. I have also been encouraged to write at a very young age. Aside from school, I try to write and read when I have time. 
I usually read and write on the occasion of a snowy day, when school is closed. These days are the best, warmed by the fire and hot chocolate, easily forgetting the cold weather. On days like these, I receive the most brilliant ideas for books.

I am mostly interested in the time period of the Holocaust, in recent years. I have read many books, fiction and non-fiction, about this time period and the experience of the children of the Holocaust. 

I have decided to write my own book about a certain even of the Holocaust, one that I did not know of until I researched it. In Denmark, a country whose Jews were not as oppressed as others, there was a mass evacuation in 1943.  In October of 1943, the Danish resistance transported around 7,220 Jews to Sweden. My book starts in August of 1942, a little more than a year before this evacuation. My main character, Rochel Gitte Andelman, is a Jew in Denmark. Her friend, Henrik Østengaarde, is Christian and part of the Danish Resistance. His family will eventually help Rochel's in the evacuation of 1943.

This blog will post updates on this book, as well as book recommendations. Because of my studying, updates might be at least once a month, but I hope you will enjoy the posts nevertheless!
